The challenge

Design and build an app for type 2 diabetes patients taking specific medications and increase patient adherence through helpful support and advice.

The app was based on the existing Diabetes Coach website and provides tools for improving health and wellbeing as well as therapy information and symptom trackers for patients. One of the main design challenges was to keep the general look and feel and content of the website, whilst providing an easier UX and cleaner UI for mobile devices.

The solution

The UI is clean and intuitive, making use of typeface and font size contrasts to show the most relevant information in a clear ‘at a glance’ way.

The Diabetes Coach app was able to educate, improve adherence, remind and inform patients about their diabetes.

Exploring colour coding for widgets

Exploring the use of colour coding for the sections (tools, health, medical), as well as the use of icons to help patients easily scan and identify the different tools and resources the app provides. The UI is clean and intuitive, making use of typeface and font size contrasts to show the most relevant information in a clear ‘at a glance’ way.

Onboarding

Created onboarding section to ensure user experience is as smooth as possible.

Results

The app has been successfully launched in 3 different countries (Spain, Germany and Mexico) with over 15,000 visits in the first six months. A global English version should be launched in the near future.
